European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted individuals who have been central to efforts to introduce legislation governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

The bans were imposed on Tuesday against a former EU commissioner involved in crafting the EU’s digital governance law, along with four anti-disinformation campaigners, including two in Germany and two in the UK.
