They have faced the least challenging lineup across the NFL, and there have still been cracks. Their quarterback has been sacked on 35 occasions – ranking second league-wide – with several hits he suffered last weekend proved brutal. Over time, that punishment compounds.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos hold 8–2 as well, yet it seems as if they’re holding their breath. Their quarterback has shown inconsistency, with the attack struggling, with the defense doing all the heavy lifting. Lacking competent QB performance, the Broncos aren’t scaring playoff opponents. The Chargers are also contending in the Western division with seven wins, but the injuries along their offensive line will present challenges to mount a deep postseason tilt.

Pittsburgh Situation

And then there’s Pittsburgh, inexplicably frontrunning their division even after suffering a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers during prime time. Their scoring margin remains negative, their defensive unit frequently falters, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations at this stage of his career persistently appear. At 5-4, they're barely clinging, yet Baltimore, featuring a recovered Jackson with manageable games ahead, are on a three-game win streak. It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that the Ravens have narrowed the gap to just one game, though the speed of this shift represents criticism toward Pittsburgh’s inconsistencies. That the Ravens started with a 1-5 record and currently seem capable of division victory is telling about the entire AFC.

Traditional Powers

Baltimore constitutes part among three elite teams – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – powered by their MVP quarterbacks, that would continue to generate the most fear for opponents if they made the playoffs. They represent undesirable playoff matchups, but the Chiefs and Bills persistently undermine themselves.

Buffalo Bills
