Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is unclear and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
