Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
