19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

He saved 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
