Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
