This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig received a pardon in a ritual at the restaurant.

The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
