Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter in an unintentional contact with fellow Nugget Jones.

His teammate landed on the foot of the big man, and he immediately fell to the ground grabbing his knee.

The 30-year-old, who tops the league season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to suffering the setback.

Jokic is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.

"Immediately, he understood there was a problem," stated Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that gets hurt, it's tough to see, most notably somebody as talented as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Of course, at this moment, I'm more concerned just about him personally and the letdown of going through an event like that."
